Hosted by Nayaswamis Narayan & Dharmadevi, Spiritual Directors, Ananda Los Angeles

In this immersive workshop, we will use Paramhansa Yogananda’s sacred chants to incite healing on all levels of body, mind, and soul. Yogananda gave specific healing qualities to many of his Cosmic Chants, for example:

  • Overcoming Bad Habits & Negative Thought Patterns
  • Overcoming Restlessness & Desires
  • Overcoming Fear of Death
  • Overcoming Failure in Business
  • Overcoming Feeling Forsaken or Disillusioned
  • Overcoming Grief in Bereavement

Yogananda played each of his chants until he felt a response from the Divine, at which time he felt them to be truly spiritualized. He encouraged others to chant these chants for healing of all dis-eases and to awaken the heart’s natural love. Here are some examples of the positive qualities he gave to his chants:

  • To Sweeten a Sour Disposition
  • To Invoke Divine Aid
  • To Tune Into Unconditional Love
  • To Make Body, Mind, & Soul Beautiful
  • To Achieve Divine Ecstasy

Yogananda said, “Chanting is half the battle.” This was an important statement to say the least because there are so many other elements to the spiritual path – meditation, selfless service, introspection, etc. Only of chanting did he say it was “half the battle.” Why would this statement be true?

Chanting opens the heart – Sri Yukteswar (Yogananda’s guru) said, “You can’t take one step on the spiritual path without awakening the heart’s natural love.”

Chanting helps release negative thought patterns – Similar to affirmations, chanting reprograms the subconscious mind. Chanting has the advantage over affirmations because music bypasses the conscious mind, which can sabotage our efforts with affirmations.

Chanting recharges the soul – As we repeat these words of power, accompanied by harmonium and sometimes guitar, your soul-nature will relax into its true reality as a child of the Infinite. You will leave feeling refreshed and recharged.

What to expect: No experience is needed. This workshop is not about having a good singing voice or being a professional musician. It is meant to awaken and deepen your connection with the Divine, from whence all true healing comes. In between each chant will be a brief guided meditation to help you get the most from the practice. Yogananda translated most of his chants to English. Words to the chants will be provided. The words repeat so, as you feel comfortable, you can let go of the chant booklet, close your eyes, and go deep into the feeling.
